● Develop and implement an integrated, organization wide strategic communications plan to broaden awareness of the nonprofit sector and strengthen NPO brand identity across key stakeholder audiences.
I began my career in Marketing & Media but soon moved to Broadcast after being
offered a position as Assistant for Dali Tambo (and the Tambo family) on various
projects from Talk Shows, Celebrity Profiles, Politicians and Political Parties documentaries. I gain a vast amount of knowledge and background into Politics and found my passion for investigative reporting, story telling and documentaries. To this end, I ended up training as an assistant Editor and ended my career as a Project/Production Manager. I was then recruited by Basetsana Khumalo to assist in setting up the JHB branch of Top Billing and Directing inserts for events that were taking place in Johannesburg. From there I moved across to working for a subsidiary company of the Daily Sun, know as Community Television Network, that mainly dealt with the Community, Client Communications with churches and organizations within various townships throughout Gauteng. This position was mainly hands on and I was responsible for all aspects of the company, from client liaison, scripting of inserts and programming, to filming, Editing and delivery of final product to all community centers and churches in the various townships. This I later found put me in good sted for running my own Company and managing various projects and production in Rwanda. There I gained extensive knowledge into the people, culture and politics of this amazing country.
I then formed my own production in 2005 which allowed me to take on the contract that I was offered my the Government of Rwanda and the Mayor of Kigali, to not only promote the good work that had been achieved post Genocide, but also to encourage investment and tourism. This we achieved by working alongside
various organizations such as; COMESA, AfDB, EAC, SADC, Nepad, UNICEF, Rwanda Truth Commission, Souther Africa Trust, Legatum, ILO, AU, and the World Economic Forum. All of these projects were in conjunction with the Presidents office and were in regards to with events, conferences, debates, good governance, awareness or political events that took place. We were a team ranging fro 10 - 15 people (depending of the project or program at the time).
In order to achieve our goals set by Government, one of our major tasks was creating communication campaigns, public awareness Projects distributed on Rwanda Television, DSTV, Social Media and YouRube Channels, Websites. The Projects were also accompanied by Analytical reports on Campaign outcomes and achievements, DVD copy of the program or event and recommendations. We were a self contained unit that was often handed assignment and had to come up with the Project or campaign ideas. Whether that involved writing strategies, communications plans, Documentaries, production management, filming events or conferences, live debates, project planning right through to final delivery and promotion of the events (prior to execution).
Due to my success in Rwanda I was asked by the Ambassador of Morocco in South Africa to do a similar campaign to promote Morocco (on behalf of the King of Morocco) in order to create awareness, bolster economy and tourism. This I did you creating several campaigns and documentaries about their History, Culture, Economics Status, Politics, Tourism and Investment. Being involved in this line of work fired up my interest and enthusiasm for hard hitting journalism, broadcast and media which led me to working for companies such as CNBC and eNCA. Here I gained an immense amount of knowledge and experience in News & Media Production, Journalism, Social Media, Pod Casts and Communications.
I am currently working as a Consultant for The Institute for the Advancement of Journalisms. I am responsible for fund raising and media strategies, press communications, Advocating of current causes and issues.
